United for Human Rights (UHR) assists and unites individuals, educators, organizations and governmental bodies to implement the Universal Declaration of Human Rights at local, regional, national and international levels. It was founded on the Declaration’s 60th anniversary in the face of continued worldwide abuses that violate the whole spirit and intent in which the community of nations, for the first time in history, conceived and adopted a charter of all human rights. The Declaration contains the thirty rights that together form the basis for a civilization where people can enjoy all the freedoms to which they are entitled and nations can live in peace. UHR supports the work of many other human rights organizations and encourages them to unite toward the implementation of the Universal Declaration and its progeny, the International Bill of Human Rights. The International Bill of Human Rights consists of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights. One of UHR’s primary functions is educative. Surveys have found that most people have only a limited understanding of human rights. Therefore, UHR supports governmental and legislative measures that advance the full implementation of the Declaration and distributes informative and educational materials to increase public knowledge and bring about a full understanding of human rights. |
