Advancing the Rights of Children and Families Throughout Mexico

Youth for Human Rights Mexico trained thousands from the National System for Integral Family Development on the 30 human rights so they can empower youth.

Human Rights training delivered to police officers and staff of the National System for Integral Family Development in Mexico.

With over 26 percent of Mexico’s population younger than 15 years old, the welfare of youth is a major concern. But with 38 percent of them living in poverty and lacking access to health services, education, adequate nutrition and shelter, the task is far from easy.

This is where the National System for Integral Family Development (SNDIF) comes into the picture. A Mexican public institution for social assistance, SNDIF focuses on strengthening and developing the welfare of Mexican families.

One of SNDIF’s primary goals is to promote the rights of children and adolescents. As SNDIF’s Federal Attorney for the Protection of Children and Adolescents points out, “The rights of youth are a priority because in their hands is the possibility of carrying out a cultural transformation.”

To make this a reality, SNDIF worked with Youth for Human Rights Mexico, traveling through the states of Mexico, teaching public servants, government officials, first responders, national guards, police officers, parents and children about their 30 human rights. These training seminars created change: by survey, 90 percent of attendees want to disseminate human rights and to share the knowledge with others.

“This alliance has allowed us to increase our ability to reach all corners of the country and promote respect for the human rights of young people.”

“One of the attendees told me the seminar changed his life, and he is so excited to use our materials to help the kids in the communities,” said a Youth for Human Rights volunteer.

“This alliance has allowed us to increase our ability to reach all corners of the country and promote respect for the human rights of young people, children and adolescents,” said SNDIF’s Federal Attorney for the Protection of Children and Adolescents. “I thank Youth for Human Rights for their support.”
